  • Holdfast: Nations at War Guide

This guide will cover how to create your own Holdfast server. Please keep in mind it is very resource intensive to run your own server while also attempting to play on it with others so unless you have a very powerful computer it is always recommended to do this on either a dedicated server or renting your own private server from a game service provider like US Game Hosting. The direct store link can be found below. Feel free to contact us for special pricing options!

You will first want to download SteamCMD. This will be used to download the game content to run the server. A guide for downloading and using SteamCMD can be found below:

    https://forums.usgamehosting.com/for...using-steamcmd

The above guide uses Holdfast as the example as well - One you have the files downloaded from SteamCMD you will also want to download their additional server files from their dropbox link:

    https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ppkfny3r9...hPpimw0ja?dl=0

This contains many good examples of configuration and .bat files you can use to start your server.

Once at the above link simply click Download -> Direct Download at the top left to begin downloading the additional server files.

Once downloaded we will want to extract the contents into the same folder we downloaded our game content to with SteamCMD. In this test case it will be C:\holdfast

Right click the .zip that was downloaded and Extract All.

Type C:\holdfast into the box and the click Extract as seen below.

You’ll be prompted to replace a file. Choose replace.

We want the files we downloaded with SteamCMD and the extra files we downloaded from dropbox to be located within the same folder.

Once that is complete we can modify the configuration files to our liking. For this example we will take a look at the first one. Right click serverconfig_server1_armyfront and click edit. This will open the configuration file with notepad.

Below will be a snipped from that file - You can change the servers name, admin passwords or private passwords from here. If you want your server to have a password you must remove the # in front of the server_password line. This will allow that line to be executed.

###- Server & Steam Ports (All 3 ports must be unique per server instance).

    server_port 20101
    steam_communications_port 8701
    steam_query_port 27001

    ###- Server Settings

server_name New Holdfast NaW Server - Army Front
server_welcome_message Join the community Discord to participate in organised linebattle events! discord.gg/holdfastgame
    server_region europe
    server_admin_password ChangeThisPassword
    #server_password ChangeThisPassword

Once you have modified the settings to your liking we can try running the server using the config file we just modified.

To do this simply double click start_server1_armyfront_headless in order to execute ii as seen below.

A new window will open with the servers console. You will see it begin to run and you should see it in game as well. If you do not see it in game you may need to port forward the appropriate ports in your router.

The Devs for Holdfast have also created a full guide for their server software. This covers all of the different configuration options that you can use in your configuration file. Link posted below:
