Police Roleplay Guide / Tips / Resources

The following are useful tips, resources, and advice for being a police officer on our USGH LifestyleRP server!

    Requirements
-1 Day of playtime at a minimum.
-Knowledge of the rules / server laws list.
-A functional knowledge of typical US criminal / traffic laws (Don’t stress, just common knowledge stuff).

    Duties
-Uphold server laws as listen in the server rules / laws list.
-Uphold general traffic / criminal laws.
-Communicate with other officers and emergency services during a call to service.
    -Remain professional and patient.
-Set a good example for new and old players alike.

    Where to start?
    1. After meeting all requirements and recognizing your duties, head to the Police Station clerk.
    2. Hit E on him and select “I’d like to join the Rockford Police Force”.
    3. Follow the dialogue and customize your police character.
    4. Enter the dialogue again, and select a vehicle.
Do note that many options will be unavailable until you reach a higher police level, which is increased by simply playing the job often.

Now hit the streets making sure to abide by all traffic laws yourself!

Necessary tools to perform your duties

-Become familiar with your toolbar, it will have your normal gmod tools, in addition to your primary weapon, your secondary weapon, a taser, your handcuffs, a ticketbook to write citations, a battering ram and a spike strip (EMP Launcher if you are a high enough level).
-When in your vehicle, press N for your emergency lights, B to change the lighting pattern, and C for the siren.
-When in a traffic stop, you can type “!lookup” while looking at the vehicle to get the owner, and to see if the vehicle is reported stolen or not.
-On your phone under the “apps” tab, there is a section called “warrants”. This will display all the individual’s names who have active arrest warrants.
-To speak on the government radio, hold T for voice chat. For text radio chat, simply start each messages with “/radio”.

What to do in the case of a…
    Traffic Stop
    1. Simply indicate to the driver to pull over by using your lights and sirens. Turn off your siren when the vehicle has stopped.
    2. Let your other officers know that you have a vehicle stopped and if you would like any backup.
    3. Walk up to the vehicle and inform them of why they were stopped, and get their license and registration (they will have to type /lr to provide that to you).
    4. Once they provide you with that information, walk back to your vehicle. On the way back, type !lookup while looking at their vehicle to get the owner and the stolen status.
    5. When back at your vehicle, open your phone and navigate to the warrants section under “apps”. Then verify that the driver is not a warranted individual.
If the vehicle is stolen or the driver has a warrant…
    1. Radio in for backup officers just in case the driver flees from you.
    2. Make sure the driver turns the engine off, and get them to exit the car.
    3. Once they exit the car, bring them back to your vehicle and place handcuffs on them while explaining that they have a warrant or that they are in possession of a stolen vehicle.
    4. Search the suspect and place him in your vehicle.
    5. If there are additional occupants, you can now ask for all of their IDs and verify they do not have warrants either.
    6. Question the remaining occupants. If they know the vehicles was stolen, they can be arrested as an accessory to vehicle theft.
    7. If nothing more results, release any passengers that are clear of wrongdoing, contact the vehicle owner via /pm, and take your suspect to jail!
If the vehicle is not stolen and the driver does not have a warrant…
    1. Head back to the vehicle, /me give their information back to them.
    2. If you deem a citation is necessary, simply navigate to that item on your tool bar, click on the car, and follow the prompts. Assign a reasonable amount for the crime, do not give everybody the max fine unless the violation was worthy of it.
    3. If you do not want to cite them, simply warn them of their wrongdoing and then tell them they are free to go.
    4. Go back to patrol!
    Robbery
    1. If a location is being robbed, respond to that scene with lights and sirens. When you arrive, park your vehicle in a safe and strategic location.
    2. Take out either your primary or secondary weapon while you assess the scene, if shot are being fired at you, you may return fire. Call for backup if needed, and have medical stage.
    3. If you see a vehicle fleeing the building, you may pursue them.
    4. If you arrive to see nobody there, cautiously clear the building and, if available, call in for an FBI Agent to review the security tapes.
    Shooting
In any shooting, the main things you want to keep in mind are safety and backup. Position yourself in a strategic location, make sure medics are staged AWAY from the violence, and keep active communication over the radio.

    Pursuit
If a vehicle is fleeing from you, keep the following in mind.
    1. ALWAYS keep your other units updated on your location.
    2. Call out a vehicle description as soon as viable.
    3. While you will need to drive fast, be careful and be professional at the same time.
    4. If able, place spike strips on a road in front of the pursuit (if you aren’t the primary unit).
    5. Remember, they are fleeing for a reason. If they get out of the car, or crash, be ready to respond with firepower if necessary ONLY if they fire at your first or aim a weapon at you.
    6. At any point in time, you can call off your pursuit if you deem it too dangerous. Safety above all.
Suggested Citation Prices for Common Violations
These are suggested prices and officers are encouraged to use their discretion
-Speeding 1-15 mph over the limit: $250.
    -Speeding 15-30 mph over the limit: $500 - $750.
    -Speeding 30+ mph over the limit: $750 - $1000.
-Going 100+mph anywhere: $1000 or arrest for reckless driving.
    -Parking violations: $100 - 300
    -Running a red light: $500 - $750
    -Running a stop sign: $150 - $300
    -Impeding traffic: $250 - $500

Suggested Jail Timers for Common Crimes
These are suggested timers and officers are encouraged to use their discretion. For example, a robbery may only be a suggested 7 to 12 minutes, but if that suspect was also shooting at police or even killed somone, you are fully capable of increasing it to a necessary amount.
-Reckless Driving: 3 or 5 minutes.
    -Assault: 5 to 10 minutes.
    -Robbery: 7 to 12 minutes.
    -Evasion: 7 to 12 minutes.
    -Murder: 10 to 12 minutes.
-Murder of an LEO: 10 to 15 minutes.
-Mass casualty event of LEO and civilians: 15-20 minutes.

Do be weary to use anything in the 15-20 minute range. Those are REAL minutes and having to sit there for that long is not fun. Only use that high of a timer for extreme events.
